It was a floral trial and error.

Meghan Markle was caught in an awkward moment involving a bouquet of flowers as she mourned the loss of Queen Elizabeth II alongside her husband Prince Harry, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton.

In a video captured by a mourner Outside Windsor Castle on Saturday, Markle was seen holding the bouquet when a royal aide approached her asking if he could remove the flowers from her hands. Markle appeared to decline the offer and told the aide she would put them down herself before turning back to the crowd with the package still in her arms.

But moments later, another aide approached to pick up flowers Harry had received from a member of the public, then reached for Markle’s bouquet as well. The “Suits” alum seemed to resist at first, but after the assistant appeared to explain the situation, Markle agreed and handed over the flower arrangement.

“The big guns must have come in when Meghan refused to let go of the flowers that the first assistant tried to take from her when she wanted to walk them to the other tributes herself,” a fan account tweeted.

Several Twitter users speculated that Markle wanted to save the flowers and place them at the fence for photo-op purposes.

“She wanted it for the optics but it got crushed by people who know exactly what she’s trying to accomplish.🤣,” one viewer tweeted, adding, “I think she gets the money when she places the flowers with the other floral tributes.

“She probably wanted to be captured and filmed when she’s walking around alone, put flowers there and put some action. In fact, if you think about it, she really is a narcissist, always trying to do everything for her at every opportunity. Glad she got arrested!” a second agreed.

“She is absolutely classless, simple as that,” added a third.

Other Twitter users, however, gave Markle the benefit of the doubt, saying she was just trying to mourn the Queen in peace.

“I can’t believe the bashing of Meghan has already started, this is the first time she’s seen this and tried her best, she probably promised to lay the flowers herself and that’s what she was going to do until Harry told her it’s fine to pass them over,” one person tweeted in defense of Markle.

“She probably didn’t realize that the flowers are taken down for security reasons. After all, there could be a small explosive device, nerve gas, poisonous insect, any number of things, hidden in there,” a second royal protocol fan explained.

She eventually learned that handing over the arrangements was ceremonial and handed them over to a waiting assistant.

Markle, 41, and Harry, 37, joined William and Middleton, both 40, in laying flowers outside Windsor Castle to pay their respects to the late monarch.

The outing marked the first time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have appeared in public with the newly crowned Prince and Princess of Wales since Commonwealth Day in March 2020.

A royal source told Page Six that William extended the invitation to his estranged brother and sister-in-law, adding: “We are all very grateful – with both parties putting everything aside for the Queen.”

Harry rushed to be at the Queen’s side last Thursday morning when Buckingham Palace announced his health was rapidly declining, but he arrived after his grandmother died – and without his wife, who would have feared that she is not warmly welcomed.

Harry released a sentimental statement on the loss of the monarch on Monday.

“Grandma, as this latest parting brings us great sadness, I am eternally grateful for all of our first encounters – from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren,” he said.

Harry added: “I cherish these times shared with you and the many other special moments in between. We miss you a lot already.

Markle has yet to release a statement, although the couple have mourned the loss of the Queen together by obscuring their organization Archewell’s website.
